Fortunately, the Eucalyptus tree is widespread and has been so for many millions of years because without it, many of Australia’s iconic animal species such as the koala and the laughing bird would have difficulty surviving. And because didgeridoos are mainly made of eucalyptus wood, the music of Australia’s aborigines may have a decidedly different sound. Some eucalyptus trees secrete a sticky gum mixture from their bark, which the original population still likes to chew on, hence the nickname “gum-tree”.
