Where deforestation elsewhere in the world is mainly due to commercial timber business as well as large-scale farming and plantation business, the cause in Africa is predominantly fuel needs as well as small farms. Developing countries are very dependent on wood for house building, heating and cooking, and especially here the result is often climatic turbulence with floods and droughts as a result.
