Over the last 200 years, Australia has lost 20% rainforest, 45% open forest and 30% eucalyptus and the effect of this is worrying because it has brought 20% of the continent’s mammals, 7% reptiles and 13% of birds to the list of extinct, endangered or vulnerable species. Today, Australia’s deforestation is among the highest in the world and the major forest fires in 2019 provide further incentive to rebuild forests on a large scale.
